Rising Stars: Fredrik Tjærandsen

06 06 2019

Fredrik Tjærandsen, hailed by Vogue as the Central Saint Martins ‘designer of the moment’, has been enjoying global recognition after his performative rubber ‘bubble dresses’ went viral in May.

The Norwegian designer was inspired by his childhood memories and wanted to represent the ‘fogginess’ of memory through the air-filled bubbles, made from Sri Lankan rubber, with the deflation process at the end of the show representing ‘the moment of consciousness after a dream’. Videos of the dresses deflating have been shared by artists, fashion editors and celebrities worldwide, and Tjærandsen gained more than 25,000 Instagram followers overnight after his CSM BA Fashion showcase, winning plaudits from the likes of Vogue, LOVE magazine, and i-D. The 24 year old was also crowned winner of the L'Oréal Professionnel Young Talent Award earlier this year, with the fashion world is eagerly anticipating his next move.
